Blues Matters – “The audience… were hushed and transfixed”

The Musically ambitious and versatile Ronnie Greer Almost Big Band were stunning on interpretations of Herbie Hancock’s ‘Cantaloupe Island’, blues standards like ‘Stranger Blues’ and ‘Roll ’em Pete’ and songs by Bob Dylan, Will Jennings and Others. Tom Waits ‘Clap Hands’ was sung with spooky panache by keyboard player Kyron Burke, while the anguished reading of ‘I’d Rather Go Blind’ by guest Grainne Duffy was hair-raising. The audience – in a Belfast bar, late on a Saturday night! – were hushed and transfixed.
